2017-18 Teacher of the Year

Mrs. Mansfield
TECC 2017-18 Teacher of the Year

Thompson Early Childhood Center instructional staff voted Elaine Mansfield Teacher of the Year

Here is some information from Mrs. Mansfield: I was born in Jamestown, New York and lived there with my husband and two daughters until 2007. While in NY, I graduated from SUNY College at Fredonia, NY with a Bachelor of Science degree (Early Childhood Education Major) in 1999 and then received a Master of Science degree in Special Education at Mercyhurst College in Erie, Pa. in 2005.

In NY, I taught preschool in various settings for 5 ½ years, a year of kindergarten at a private Christian school, and 1 ½ years as a special education teacher at the elementary level. My husband, myself, and our youngest daughter "took the plunge" moving to Onslow County in 2007. We were familiar with the beautiful area, as we had vacationed here many times while visiting family.  I have been a preschool teacher at both Queens Creek Elementary and Thompson Early Childhood Center for most of those 10 years and have loved it!

I have been blessed with a wonderful husband of 33 years who also works for Onslow County Schools. Both of our beautiful daughters now live in Raleigh, our eldest was recently married and our youngest is a 1st grade teacher. We enjoy lounging on the beach (especially at dusk) and visiting our extended family in Western New York.

As an educator, it is always a joy to see children grasp a new skill and to witness how differently they all learn. I am a firm believer that we are lifelong learners and can honestly say I learn something new from my students every year. I am thrilled to be returning for another year of teaching at Thompson Early Childhood Center!
